Gulf Shores-video

Here are a couple of short videos of the kids at the beach. You will have to pause the music in order to hear. There isn't really anything to hear though, the wind was loud on the camera microphone.

More Fun at the Beach--Gulf Shores, AL

The kids were out of school for three days this week. On Tuesday we went back to the beach. First, we drove to Dauphin Island again and walked around an old Civil War fort called Fort Gaines. Then we drove our van onto the ferry at Dauphin Island and rode over to Gulf Shores.

We sat on the observation deck.

We looked through the binoculars.
We saw several Exxon-Mobile oil rigs.
We stopped at the souvenir shop to get some beach toys. The sharks mouth was the entrance. The kids loved it.

We had a picnic lunch.
Then we enjoyed our day at the beach looking for seashells, flying a kite, building sand castles, feeding the seagulls, burying each other in the sand, etc...

Justus eating sand.

It was a wonderful day! We will be going back again soon!
I am trying to add some video. Check back again later.

Lambert's Cafe- Good Eatin and Great Fun!

We are still enjoying getting to know our new area. We have a Lambert's Cafe about 45 minutes away from our home in Foley, AL. We love this place. We use to go when we lived in MO. For those of you who do not know, there are only 3 of these in the country, and they are the home of the throwed roll! Yes, throwed, not thrown! There are guys and gals in red bow ties and suspenders pushing carts of fresh, hot, huge yeast rolls. These folks are ready to throw a roll across the restaurant at any raised hand! It is a blast!! Then you eat your hot roll with honey, butter, apple butter, or molasses.

They also have what is called Norm's Pass-it-arounds. When you get to your table, pull off a paper towel, get a plate, and get ready for the good southern food coming at you. These free pass it arounds include fried potatoes, fried okra, macaroni-n-tomatoes, black-eyed peas, and more. Then you order your reasonably priced and generously portioned meal which includes two more sides. Your drink also comes in an enormous mug, so you rarely run out. This is a wonderful place for the family or a group. You will leave with a smile, some great memories, a full belly, and a ton of leftovers! If you are ever in Sikeston, MO; Ozark, MO; or Foley, AL you must go! Check out all kinds of pics and fun facts about Lamberts at:

Sorry, my pics aren't very good here. I had my camera on the wrong setting.

Waiting for our throwed rolls...

The guy throwing rolls at us...

Ready to catch a roll? Hands in the air ...

Even Justus put his hands up. Then he practiced throwing his food too. Maybe this wasn't the best place to take a 16 month old.

Eating the yummy rolls...

Enjoying Our New Town and Weather

Yesterday was Aaron's day off. What started out as a routine day of getting new tires on the van and exchanging a few things at the store ended up to be anything but routine for us. We ended up here!!
Aaron and I were headed back home with both of the boys asleep in their car seats. I have been wanting to drive to a nearby town Bayou Le Batre, Alabama which is the seafood capitol of AL just to see the boats and stuff. Aaron thought let's go now while the boys are asleep and before we have to get the girls from school. We ended up going to that city and a little farther to Dauphin Island. It is actually only about 25 miles from our house!!

sweet feet in the sand

We all had a great time in the beautiful weather, sun, and sand. We can't believe this is February!! What a change from Indiana!

Aaron is so thoughtful. He picked up some shells for the girls, since they weren't with us.

We had sooo much fun in the sand! We didn't want the girls to miss out, so.... We went home, grabbed some shorts and culottes, and headed to....

As some of you know, I grew up in Hattiesburg, MS. We lived there until just before my 16th birthday, and then we moved to MO. The last time I was there, I was in 11th grade. For me it was "like coming home!" We went to the beach in Pascagoula, which is also about 25 miles from our house.

Aaron was taking a picture of the girls and I. Notice Justus in the background.

Yes, he did! He ran straight into the water. He LOVES water. He cries to get in the bathtub! I grabbed him and we were all laughing hysterically.

Here he is sopping wet from head to toe! We changed his clothes and went on with the fun and sun.

We all really enjoyed the day.

Chloe took a good picture of Aaron and I. We were quite impressed.

After this picture, Aaron wanted me to get on his back. I thought he just wanted a picture like that.

This is really what he wanted to do...

Dump me in the water.

Look at the pier.

We walked out on it. There was this old pump out there for the fisherman.

This doesn't happen all of the time. I had to get a picture.

Happy boys on the way home.

Guess what we will probably be doing a lot of? We all enjoyed it and the kids were ALL in bed by 8:15!
